Is there a difference between a universal joint and a coupling
Feb 10, 2019

The universal joint is a type of coupling for the mechanical transmission member, and it can be said that the universal joint belongs to the coupling family. There are many types of couplings, such as plum coupling, expansion sleeve coupling, elastic coupling, parallel coupling, diaphragm coupling, universal coupling, etc., for different applications.

Universal couplings are often used in applications where the torque is large and the two-axis concentricity is off. Materials use to produce universal couples includes 45#, 40Cr, stainless steel, etc. 45#, 40Cr and other carbon steel, often used in dry, non-corrosive working environment;

The stainless steel models are different and the application is different. 316 stainless steel can be used in corrosive, weakly acidic working environments such as ships and chemical machinery.

There are manufacturers in the market who omits the heat treatment of the universal joint to reduce the costs and make their prices more attractive. Therefore, the buyer should be alert to cheap products.

Industrial machinery motors have different speeds. The rated speed of the common slider universal joint is 1300 rpm, and the precision ten-section needle roller bearing universal joint is rated at 4000 rpm.

Precision cross universal joint suits high speed applications. They have no noise, zero clearance, easy to protect, easy to remove and easy to
