Principle of selection of the connection pattern of agricultural drive shafts
Jan 14, 2019

When selecting connection pattern of a agricultural drive shaft, the balance must be considered first, and the neutrality of the end form affects the balance of the transmitted torque. The flanged drive shaft operates smoothly by adjusting the axial clearance of the bearing assembly and with precise, auto alignment.

Due to manufacturing tolerances, the centering of the shaft could be slightly off-center, and the balance of the transmission shaft is hence affected, therefore, the slotted forks and the spline shafts are centered with both the input shaft and the output shaft. The wing bearing and the u-bolt shafts have situation is similar to that of the slotted fork.

Secondly, it is necessary to consider the reliability of the transmitted torque. The design calculation of the end connection of the agricultural drive shaft is either calculated according to the rigid transmission or calculated according to the friction transfer, and the two should not be accounted for at the same time. Friction transmission is affected by the dispersion of friction coefficient. It is not easy to accurately design the connection parameters according to the transmission torque. For safety reasons, conservative design is adopted and the structure is slightly larger for this purpose.

The rigid transmission types rely on the transmission force of the flat key or the spline, they transmit lager torques and are more reliable, so the rigidity transmission types are superior to the friction transmission when transmitting larger torques. When selecting the connection forms of the agricultural drive shaft, other factors such as layout, supply, costs, etc. should be
